Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and preferred language. You may optionally provide a profile photo.
Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the app, including pages read, reading duration, bookmarks, recitation session history, memorization progress, and daily streak data.
Audio Data: When you use recitation features, your audio is processed in real-time for speech recognition and feedback. Audio is processed transiently and is not stored on our servers unless you explicitly choose to save a recording for personal review.
Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, app version, and a unique device identifier for analytics and crash reporting purposes.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Tilawa app experience
- Process and deliver real-time recitation feedback
- Track your reading and memorization progress across devices
- Send you reminders and notifications (if opted in)
- Analyze usage trends to improve our AI models and features
- Respond to customer support requests
4. Audio & Recitation Data
Your recitation privacy is sacred to us. We handle audio data with the highest level of care:
- Real-time processing only: Audio is streamed, processed for speech recognition, and immediately discarded after generating feedback.
- No audio storage by default: We do not retain your voice recordings unless you explicitly opt in to save a session.
- Offline mode: When using the on-device AI model, your audio never leaves your phone. All processing occurs locally.
- No third-party sharing: Your audio data is never shared with, sold to, or accessed by any third party.
5. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: With trusted infrastructure providers (hosting, analytics) who process data on our behalf under strict data protection agreements
- Legal obligations: When required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
- Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or property of Tilawa, our users, or the public
- Social features: If you join study groups or participate in community features, your chosen display name and progress data may be visible to other group members
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS 1.3), encryption at rest (AES-256), secure authentication (JWT with refresh token rotation), and regular security audits. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Reading progress, bookmarks, and memorization data are retained to provide continuity of service. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. Upon deletion, we remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
